Digital financial services in Africa have grown quickly, and fraud has grown with them. Banks, microfinance institutions, telecom-owned wallets and fintech lenders now process large volumes of low-value transactions through channels that are fast, remote and hard to verify. Regulators and partner banks expect institutions to show that they understand their exposure and can detect and report suspicious activity in time to act.
The Digital Fraud and Financial Crime Risk Management in African Banking and Mobile Money Training Course walks participants from the threat landscape to a working control framework. It starts with fraud and financial crime typologies and the three lines of defence, moves into digital channel controls, customer onboarding and know-your-customer practice, and then covers transaction monitoring, sanctions and suspicious transaction reporting. The final sessions turn to investigation techniques, loss recovery, fraud governance and the culture and training needed to keep staff alert.
Learning is case driven. Participants work through anonymised incident files, tune monitoring rules against sample data and rehearse interviews and escalation. They finish with a fraud risk register and a prioritised plan for strengthening controls in their own organisation.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
