Animal-source foods are central to nutrition and rural incomes, and fish farming, poultry and livestock keeping offer some of the quickest routes into commercial agriculture. Success depends on getting the basics right: choosing suitable breeds and species, providing appropriate housing, feeding efficiently, preventing disease and keeping records that show where money is made or lost. Investors and extension programmes alike see failures that could have been avoided with sound husbandry and simple financial planning.
The Fundamentals of Aquaculture, Poultry & Livestock Production Training Course gives participants a structured introduction to all three enterprises. After an overview of production systems and market opportunities, the course works through pond and tank aquaculture, commercial and smallholder poultry, and ruminant production for milk and meat. Common themes run across every day, including nutrition and feed formulation, animal health and welfare, biosecurity, One Health and the prudent use of veterinary medicines. The final day brings the technical content together in enterprise budgeting, marketing and the preparation of a production plan.
Teaching combines clear explanations with demonstrations, worked calculations and farm case studies. Where the venue allows, an optional visit to a working farm lets participants see systems in practice, and every participant leaves with a simple plan for an enterprise they intend to start or support.
