Financial stability depends on supervisors and banks sharing a clear understanding of the rules. Since the global financial crisis, standards on capital, liquidity, governance and financial crime have tightened, and institutions across Africa have had to adapt quickly. Staff entering supervision or compliance roles are often expected to contribute before they have had a structured introduction to how the system fits together.
The Fundamentals of Banking Supervision & Regulatory Compliance Training Course provides that foundation. It starts with the reasons for regulating banks, the structure of the financial safety net and the main supervisory approaches. Participants then study capital adequacy, asset quality, earnings and liquidity indicators, learn how supervisors assess risk management and governance, and review the cycle of licensing, inspection, enforcement and resolution.
The final sessions concentrate on compliance in practice: customer due diligence, suspicious transaction reporting, sanctions screening, conduct and complaint handling, and how to maintain a regulatory change register. Teaching uses simplified balance sheets and short cases so that participants can apply each concept immediately and leave with tools suitable for their own institutions.
On completion, participants will be able to:
