Public bodies, banks and development partners fund large works contracts across the region, and each expects those contracts to be administered transparently and in line with their terms. When administrators miss a deadline, fail to record an instruction or certify payment without support, the result is usually a claim, a delay and sometimes a dispute that consumes years. Strong governance is therefore as important as technical skill.
This advanced programme examines the way FIDIC conditions allocate risk, define responsibilities and set procedural requirements. Participants study the clauses that matter most in practice, and practise the habits that keep a contract healthy: early warning, contemporaneous records, structured correspondence and timely determinations. Governance topics link the contract to organisational delegations of authority, approvals, internal controls and the prevention of fraud and conflicts of interest.
The learning approach relies on a running case project. Participants review extracts from a sample contract, draft notices and responses, evaluate delay and cost claims, and role-play negotiation and board hearings. The week ends with a compliance review in which each participant assesses a contract file against a checklist developed during the sessions.
