Institutional investors in Africa are responsible for growing pools of long-term capital, from pension and provident funds to insurance reserves, SACCO surpluses and sovereign and development finance portfolios. With that growth comes sharper scrutiny from regulators, members and boards, who expect every allocation decision to be grounded in a clear policy, sound analysis and honest reporting of risk.
The Investment Management Training Course follows the portfolio management process in the order practitioners use it. Participants begin with investor objectives, constraints and the investment policy statement, then study modern portfolio theory, the capital asset pricing model and the construction of efficient portfolios. Later sessions apply fixed income and equity valuation techniques, examine the role and due diligence of alternative assets, and set out how to monitor, rebalance and attribute performance. Governance runs throughout: the work of investment committees, the selection and oversight of external managers, and the integration of ESG factors into investment decisions.
Teaching is quantitative but practical. Participants build return, risk and valuation calculations in Excel, interpret real market data and debate allocation choices in small investment committees, finishing the week with a portfolio proposal for a realistic institutional client.
