Written communication carries most of the decisions an organisation makes. Instructions, approvals, budgets and board resolutions all exist because someone wrote them down, and when that record is unclear, late or inaccurate, the cost shows up as repeated meetings, disputes over what was agreed and actions that quietly lapse. Good writers and minute takers therefore carry real influence.
The programme treats writing and minute taking as leadership skills rather than clerical tasks. Participants first sharpen their business writing: analysing audience and purpose, organising ideas, writing in a direct and courteous voice, and editing their own drafts. They then move to the mechanics of meetings, learning how to prepare with the chair, capture discussion and decisions in real time, and convert rough notes into minutes that are brief, neutral and complete.
The later sessions deal with governance practice: formal and informal meeting types, quorum and procedure, confidentiality, version control, filing and the use of action trackers to hold owners to deadlines. Delivery is workshop style, with timed writing tasks, live meeting simulations and detailed feedback on every participant's work, so that new habits are formed during the week and not merely discussed.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
