Facilities that use solvents, acids, gases, reagents and process chemicals carry risks to people, property and the environment that rule-books alone do not control. Fires, toxic releases, exposures and contamination incidents continue to occur where hazards are poorly understood, controls decay over time, or leaders fail to follow up on near misses. Strong leadership is the link between the written system and what happens on the floor.
The Leadership and Performance in Chemical Handling, Laboratory & Process Safety Training Course combines technical grounding with practical management skills. Participants start with chemical hazards and regulatory classification, then move through laboratory and warehouse practice, process safety fundamentals, emergency preparedness and incident learning. A parallel thread develops the leadership behaviours that sustain performance: setting expectations, coaching, communicating risk, and holding people and contractors accountable.
Sessions rely on realistic scenarios, inspection exercises and simplified process safety studies. Participants build their own safety improvement plan, with a prioritised list of hazards, owners and performance measures, to apply on return to work. Facilitators encourage open discussion of near misses so that learning comes from real experience.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
