Employers carry a growing duty to protect workers from hazards that did not feature in older safety programmes. Heat waves reduce concentration and cause illness on outdoor and indoor sites alike, extreme weather interrupts operations, and sustained pressure at work drives anxiety, fatigue and mistakes that can themselves cause accidents. The link between these two risk families is strong: a hot, uncertain and overloaded workplace is a less safe one.
The Leadership and Performance in Climate-Related and Psychosocial Workplace Risk Training Course treats the topic as a management responsibility rather than a purely technical one. Participants first identify the climate and psychosocial hazards present in their operations, then assess exposure and set priorities using structured methods. They examine controls at organisational level, including work scheduling, workload design, cooling and shelter, flexible arrangements and supervisor training, and consider how leaders shape culture through their own conduct.
Later sessions concentrate on performance: indicators, reporting, consultation with workers, and continuous improvement. Participants work on realistic workplace scenarios and draw up a plan that can be put before senior management. The emphasis is on practical decisions leaders can take within current budgets and legal duties.
