Written communication is the working record of an organisation. Decisions, instructions, commitments and approvals all depend on what was put on paper, and by whom. When messages are long, unclear or badly timed, work slows down. When minutes are late, partial or one-sided, accountability dissolves and disputes about what was agreed become common.
This programme treats business writing and minute taking as connected management skills. The first part develops a disciplined approach to writing: defining purpose and reader before drafting, organising ideas, using plain English, controlling tone for senior, external and sensitive audiences, and checking grammar, punctuation and layout. Participants then apply the method to emails, letters, memos, briefing notes, short reports and executive summaries. The second part turns to meetings. It follows the full cycle from preparing the agenda and papers with the chair, through attendance, note-taking and recording decisions, to drafting, approving, distributing and tracking actions. Different meeting types and styles of minutes are compared, from verbatim records to concise outcome-based formats.
Practical work dominates. Participants write and edit real documents, take minutes from recorded and role-played meetings and receive structured peer and trainer feedback, leaving with templates they can use on their next working day.
After completing the course, participants will be able to:
