Employers are being asked to show that they protect workers from a widening set of hazards. Rising temperatures reduce safe working hours outdoors and in poorly ventilated plants, extreme rainfall disrupts sites and commutes, and psychosocial hazards such as workload, bullying, violence and uncertainty damage health and productivity. Managing these risks is only credible when it is measured, and measurement is where most workplaces fall short.
This course applies monitoring and evaluation discipline to workplace risk. Participants learn to build a theory of change and results framework for a risk programme, choose meaningful indicators and decide how data will be collected, stored and protected. They examine how to monitor climate exposures through temperature and humidity logs, weather alerts and incident records, and how to track psychosocial conditions through surveys, absence and turnover data, and confidential reporting channels.
The later sessions focus on evaluation: judging whether controls such as work-rest schedules, shade provision, flexible rostering or manager training changed outcomes, and reporting findings to boards, safety committees and regulators. Practical exercises use sample datasets and survey tools, and each delegate completes a monitoring and evaluation plan for their own workplace.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
