Public bodies and private developers across Africa spend large sums on works contracts, often financed by development partners who expect disciplined administration. Yet cost overruns, stalled sites and payment disputes remain common, and many of them trace back to missed deadlines, unclear instructions and weak records rather than to technical problems alone.
The Monitoring and Evaluation of Contract Management & Administration (FIDIC) Training Course combines contract knowledge with a performance management approach. Participants first review the structure and risk allocation of the FIDIC conditions and the duties of each party. They then examine the administration cycle in detail: notices, programme and progress reporting, variations, valuation, claims for time and money, payment certification, and taking over and defects liability. The second half introduces monitoring and evaluation tools, including contract registers, performance indicators, earned value basics, compliance audits and post-contract reviews.
Learning relies on a running case of a road or building project with sample correspondence, programmes and certificates. By the end, participants will have built a monitoring framework and assessed realistic claims and variations, ready to apply on their own contracts.
