Operating a building is one of the largest controllable costs in most organisations, and one of the largest sources of avoidable emissions. Cooling, lighting and ventilation systems drift out of tune, schedules stop matching occupancy, and savings from earlier projects quietly disappear. Operational excellence means treating energy performance as a discipline that is measured, owned and improved continuously.
This programme guides participants from understanding where energy goes to sustaining reductions over time. It starts with energy fundamentals, metering and benchmarking, then covers the audit process and the main efficiency opportunities in mechanical, electrical and envelope systems. Participants learn to build a business case for retrofits, compare options using payback and lifecycle cost, and connect energy measures to a carbon reduction pathway including renewable supply. A full day is given to operational routines: commissioning and recommissioning, preventive maintenance, occupant engagement and the energy management system.
Learning is done through calculations, audit worksheets and a worked building case that runs through the week. By the end each participant has produced an audit summary, a prioritised measures list and a draft decarbonisation roadmap suited to their own estate.
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
