Rising tariffs, unreliable supply and stronger expectations from investors, tenants and regulators are pushing building owners to treat energy as something to be managed rather than simply paid for. Yet many organisations lack a reliable baseline, cannot say which systems drive consumption, and launch retrofit projects without a plan for financing, procurement or confirming that savings were delivered.
This programme follows the sequence a real decarbonisation project takes. Participants start by collecting and normalising energy data, calculating intensity indicators and mapping end uses. They then learn audit methods and evaluate measures across building fabric, lighting, cooling and ventilation, controls, pumping, and on-site renewable generation. Financial appraisal using simple payback, life-cycle cost and carbon abatement cost helps rank options, while sessions on funding routes, performance contracting, procurement and commissioning explain how plans become projects. The closing sessions cover operational behaviour, monitoring dashboards and verification of savings.
Teaching is workshop based. Participants analyse utility bills, interpret audit findings and build a prioritised plan for a case-study building, then adapt the same method to a property from their own portfolio.
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
