In an age of smartphones and instant sharing, an incident can become public before management has finished its first meeting. Reputational damage can follow quickly, affecting donors, customers, regulators and staff morale. At the same time, organisations that communicate poorly in calm periods enter a crisis with little goodwill to draw on, so crisis response and strategic communication need to be treated together.
The Practical Crisis & Strategic Communication Training Course teaches both through practice. Participants start by identifying the crises their own organisations are most likely to face and the stakeholders who will matter most. They then assemble the building blocks of readiness: a plan, a team, approved templates, a media protocol and monitoring arrangements. The strategic half of the course shows how to set communication objectives, shape consistent messages, select channels and track perception, so that reputation is built before it is tested.
Most of the time is spent doing. Delegates write statements against the clock, face cameras and difficult questions, manage a simulated online storm and review their performance with trainers who have worked with the media. At the close, each participant has a tailored crisis toolkit and a short strategic communication plan.
