Digital Transformation in Asset Management (Fixed Assets, ISO 55001) Training Course in Cape Town, South Africa

Classroom training in Cape Town · next cohort Oct 26, 2026 · from USD 3,800

Organisations that own roads, plant, buildings, fleets or networks often cannot say with confidence what they hold, where it is, what condition it is in or what it will cost to keep running. Paper registers and disconnected spreadsheets hide ghost assets, duplicate records and deferred maintenance until an audit or failure exposes them. Five days of structured work show how to replace that with a living digital record. Delegates build asset registers and hierarchies, reconcile physical verification with the accounting ledger, and compare enterprise asset management and CMMS platforms, including data migration and integration with ERP finance modules.

About this course

Assets represent the largest share of the balance sheet in utilities, transport agencies, county governments, manufacturers and many NGOs, yet the data describing them is often the weakest in the organisation. Inaccurate registers distort depreciation, hide impairment, weaken audit opinions and lead to maintenance spending that is reactive rather than planned.

The Digital Transformation in Asset Management (Fixed Assets, ISO 55001) Training Course explains how digital systems can bring finance, engineering and operations onto a common view of the asset base. Participants start with the asset lifecycle and the structure of an ISO 55001 management system, then move into register design, tagging and identification, physical verification and capitalisation rules. The middle of the week turns to technology: choosing between EAM, CMMS and ERP fixed asset modules, cleansing and migrating data, mobile inspection tools, GIS and condition monitoring. The final sessions apply analytics to criticality, risk, lifecycle cost and renewal forecasting, and address the change management needed to keep data current.

Group tasks use sample registers and workshop scenarios, so participants can practise cleansing records and building a business case. Each person produces an outline project plan for digitising assets in their own organisation.

Training Objectives

By the close of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the principles and structure of an ISO 55001 asset management system.
  • Design an asset hierarchy, numbering scheme and register that serve finance and operations.
  • Plan physical verification and reconcile findings with the fixed asset ledger.
  • Compare EAM, CMMS and ERP fixed asset functionality against organisational needs.
  • Cleanse, validate and migrate asset data with defined quality controls.
  • Use criticality, condition and lifecycle cost analysis to prioritise maintenance and renewal.
  • Evaluate how sensors, mobile tools and GIS can improve asset data collection.
  • Develop a business case and implementation plan for asset digitisation.
