Organisations are deploying machine learning and generative AI faster than they can govern it, and the consequences of biased, opaque or insecure systems fall on customers, citizens and the institution itself. Over ten days, practitioners learn to put structure around that risk. The first half builds the management system: AI policy, roles, inventory of AI systems, risk and impact assessment, data governance, lifecycle controls, supplier oversight and the clauses and Annex controls of ISO/IEC 42001, together with the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and the principles of the OECD and UNESCO. The second half goes deeper into applied work, covering bias and fairness testing, explainability, model documentation, human oversight, red teaming of generative systems, incident response, monitoring and internal audit.
A final project has each participant prepare an AI governance pack for a real or sample use case. The programme suits chief data and technology officers, risk, compliance and audit professionals, data scientists, product owners, legal counsel, information security managers and public sector digital leaders. It is delivered in the classroom, online or in-house, with a CPD-accredited certificate. Afterwards you can inventory AI systems, assess their risk, set controls and show an auditor the evidence.
Artificial intelligence now influences credit decisions, hiring, medical triage, fraud detection, citizen services and customer conversations. Regulators, boards and procurement teams are asking organisations to show how these systems are controlled, and standards bodies have responded with a certifiable benchmark in ISO/IEC 42001. Without a management system, AI use grows through isolated experiments, each carrying hidden risk from data quality, model drift, vendor dependence and misuse of generative tools.
The Applied AI Governance, Responsible AI & ISO 42001 Training Course is a ten-day programme that moves from principles to evidence. The opening week sets out the governance architecture: policy, accountability, risk appetite, inventories, impact assessments and the structure of ISO/IEC 42001 alongside complementary frameworks. The second week applies it to the technical and operational reality of AI systems, from fairness metrics and explainability techniques to prompt and output controls for large language models, human-in-the-loop design, monitoring and incident handling.
Teaching combines expert briefings with working labs on sample datasets and model cards, tabletop exercises and audit role plays. Participants assemble a complete governance pack for one use case, including risk register, impact assessment, control mapping, monitoring plan and internal audit checklist, and receive structured feedback before leaving.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
