Buildings are among the largest and most controllable sources of energy cost and emissions for any organisation, yet many facilities teams see only a monthly bill and cannot say which systems drive it. Five hands-on days take you from reading meters and tariffs to planning a retrofit. You calculate energy use intensity, normalise for weather and occupancy, and carry out walk-through audits of HVAC, lighting, pumps, motors, refrigeration and the building envelope. Sessions introduce sub-metering, load profiles, power factor correction, ASHRAE audit levels, ISO 50001 principles and green building rating tools.
You then cost efficiency measures, compare rooftop solar and battery options, and convert savings into payback, net present value and tonnes of carbon dioxide avoided. Every step uses calculation sheets and real building data, so the methods transfer straight to your own estate. Facilities managers, building services engineers, sustainability officers, architects, property managers and energy consultants gain the most. Classroom, online and in-house formats are available, with a CPD-accredited certificate. Afterwards you can complete a simple audit report and present a phased decarbonisation plan to your leadership.
Energy prices, grid reliability and corporate net-zero commitments are pushing building owners to understand exactly how their premises perform. Offices, hospitals, hotels, schools and factories often waste a fifth or more of their energy through poor controls, oversized equipment and neglected maintenance, and that waste can be found with ordinary tools and a systematic approach.
This programme gives participants a repeatable method. They start by establishing a baseline from bills, meter readings and building data, then learn to benchmark against comparable buildings. Audit practice follows: inspecting cooling, ventilation, lighting, hot water, compressed air and the envelope, recording findings and sizing opportunities. The latter part of the week covers retrofit economics, on-site solar and storage, building management systems, behaviour change and the carbon accounting needed to describe progress honestly.
Each day mixes explanation with calculation. Participants work through data from real building types, use spreadsheet templates supplied for the course, and produce a prioritised list of measures with costs, savings and a phasing plan. The outcome is an approach that can be applied to their own portfolio straight away.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

The programme is deliberately applied, so participants practise the same steps an energy consultant would take. It uses:
Day 1: Energy Use, Baselines and Benchmarking
Day 2: Auditing Building Systems
Day 3: Envelope, Comfort and Controls
Day 4: Retrofit Economics and On-Site Renewables
Day 5: Carbon, Reporting and Roadmap
The course is suitable for people who operate, design or advise on buildings, including:
Participants who take part in all sessions and complete the audit and roadmap exercises receive a CPD-accredited Certificate of Completion issued by Vision Reach Global Consultancy.
The baseline model, audit findings and decarbonisation roadmap produced during the week remain with each participant and can support CPD records or an internal energy management proposal.

Everything you need to know about this course before you register.
By the end of the Practical Building Energy Performance & Decarbonisation programme, you'll be able to establish an energy baseline and calculate energy use intensity for different building types, normalise consumption for weather, occupancy and operating hours, conduct a structured walk-through audit of building services and the envelope, and identify and size low-cost, medium-cost and capital efficiency measures. The full breakdown of topics is covered session by session in the Course Outline tab above.
The course is suitable for people who operate, design or advise on buildings, including: Facilities and estates managers, Building services, mechanical and electrical engineers, Energy managers and sustainability officers, Property and asset managers, Architects and project managers on retrofit projects, Hotel, hospital and school operations managers, Energy service company and solar installer staff, and Government and county facilities and public works officers.
