Live Online Strategic Climate Action, Adaptation & Carbon Accounting Training Course

Live online, instructor-led · next cohort Oct 26, 2026 · from USD 800

Regulators, lenders, donors and customers increasingly ask organisations to show what they emit, how exposed they are to drought, floods and heat, and what they will do about both. Weak data and vague pledges damage credibility and can cost funding. In five days, sustainability and operations teams learn to turn climate ambition into measured, defensible action.

About this course

Climate change is now an operating condition rather than a distant risk. Rainfall is less predictable, heat affects productivity and infrastructure, and trading partners and investors expect measured emissions and credible reduction plans. Many institutions know they should act but lack a clear route from commitment to numbers, targets and funded projects.

The Strategic Climate Action, Adaptation & Carbon Accounting Training Course provides that route. Participants begin with the science and policy context, including the Paris Agreement, nationally determined contributions and national adaptation planning. They then build a carbon footprint step by step, collecting data, selecting emission factors and calculating across all three scopes. With the baseline in place, they set targets, evaluate abatement options by cost and impact, and test the strength of offset and credit claims.

Adaptation receives equal attention, from mapping hazards and vulnerable assets, people and ecosystems to selecting, costing and prioritising measures. Teaching uses spreadsheets, template registers and short case studies from agriculture, water, energy and urban settings, ending with an integrated climate strategy outline that each delegate can present to their leadership team.

Training Objectives

On completion, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the international and national climate policy frameworks that shape organisational action.
  • Define organisational boundaries and calculate Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions using the GHG Protocol.
  • Establish a baseline and set reduction targets with a defined pathway.
  • Evaluate abatement options, offsets and carbon credits for credibility and cost.
  • Assess climate hazards, exposure and vulnerability for assets, operations and communities.
  • Prioritise adaptation measures, including nature-based and community-led options.
  • Prepare climate disclosures and prepare data for verification.

What you'll learn

Explain the international and national climate policy frameworks that shape organisational action.
Define organisational boundaries and calculate Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions using the GHG Protocol.
Establish a baseline and set reduction targets with a defined pathway.
Evaluate abatement options, offsets and carbon credits for credibility and cost.
Assess climate hazards, exposure and vulnerability for assets, operations and communities.
Prioritise adaptation measures, including nature-based and community-led options.
Prepare climate disclosures and prepare data for verification.

Key Takeaways

Participants leave with:

  • A working carbon inventory workbook covering all three scopes.
  • A set of reduction targets with milestones and responsible owners.
  • A climate risk and vulnerability register for their organisation or programme.
  • A short list of costed adaptation measures ranked by priority.
  • A checklist for judging carbon credit and net zero claims.
  • An outline of a climate strategy and disclosure plan.

Training Methodology

The programme balances concepts with calculation and planning work. Delegates experience:

  • Excel-based emission calculation labs with supplied activity data
  • Facilitated vulnerability mapping using local examples
  • Case studies of adaptation and mitigation projects in different sectors
  • Debate sessions examining offset and net zero claims
  • Coaching on each participant's own strategy outline
